In addition to helping patients with dental phobia, sedation dentistry is beneficial for patients who have sensitive teeth, gums or gag reflex and those who need multiple or complex procedures.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous oxide sedation– inhaled through a small nose mask during treatment, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) delivers a mild level of sedation. Because the dosage can be adjusted during your treatment, you’re sure to achieve the optimal level of comfort and relaxation. Additionally, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, so patients are able to resume daily activities directly following treatment.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral conscious sedation– a preferred sedation method for patients who have moderate to severe anxiety is oral conscious sedation. Dr. Cobb or Dr. Lassetter will prescribe a sedative for you to take at a predetermined time prior to treatment. Due to the long lasting effects of sedative medications, patients should have a trusted friend or loved one drive them to and from the office. During treatment, as the name suggests, patients remain awake, but enter a dream-like state of deep relaxation.
IV sedation– This type of sedation delivers the sedative directly into your bloodstream, which prompts a deeper level of unconsciousness. Dr. Cobb can adjust the sedation to accommodate your level of dental anxiety. For some, a light twilight sleep is sufficient, while others prefer to be completely asleep. In either case, your safety is our chief concern. With this in mind, we carefully monitor your vital signs all during your procedure with IV sedation. At the conclusion of your treatment, the IV is stopped and you are given plenty of time to relax and recover. When you’re ready, a friend or family member will need to drive you home and keep an eye on you for a while.
With IV sedation, Dr. Cobb performs wisdom teeth extraction in an environment that is familiar to his patients and at a cost that is far less than what local oral surgeons are charging.
