At Heart of Texas Smiles General & Cosmetic Dentistry, our dentists and their team offer a few different types of sedation dentistry. We want you to be comfortable during each visit, so we strive to offer patients dental care in a practice that is welcoming, comfortable, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. We know that, despite our best efforts, some patients are not able to overcome dental fear, anxiety, or sensitivity without a little extra help. This is why we offer nitrous oxide and oral conscious sedation. In addition to helping patients with dental phobia, sedation dentistry is beneficial for patients who have sensitive teeth or gums, a strong gag reflex, and those who need multiple or complex procedures.

After consulting with your sedation dentist in Waco, you may choose one or a combination of these safe and effective options. Whatever choice you make, our team takes time to fully explain the effects of sedation, offer recommendations, and answer all of your questions. Read on or contact our Waco dental office to find out more about sedation dentistry options.

Oral Conscious Sedation

A preferred sedation method for patients who have moderate to severe dental anxiety is oral conscious sedation. Dr. Lassetter, Dr. Rivacoba, or Dr. Dhaon will prescribe a sedative for you to take at a predetermined time prior to treatment. Due to the long-lasting effects of sedative medications, patients should have a trusted friend or loved one drive them to and from the office. During treatment, as the name suggests, patients remain awake, but enter a dream-like state of deep relaxation.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Inhaled through a small nose mask during treatment, nitrous oxide (laughing gas) delivers a mild level of sedation. Because the dosage can be adjusted during your treatment, you’re sure to achieve the optimal level of comfort and relaxation. Additionally, the effects of nitrous oxide wear off quickly, so patients can resume daily activities directly following treatment.
